Nerves

After hearding 'bout the brithin' of several bebes over ten pounds the missus is a tad bit on the nervous side. A cousin gave birth to a ten pound man child. A friend of hers from college gave birth to an eleven pounder (naturally I might add). Then there's the recent news of a fourteen pound half bebe, half college freshmen that was just birthed in Oklahoma¹.

To her daily conversations with the phinlet she's reassuring him that a healthy starting weight between six and eight pounds is perfectly normal. She's also become quite religious as of late, mentioning that she isn't looking to set any records with the birthin' of our child.

I'm not sure about y'all but I find her lack of a sense of adventure a tad bit disconcerting.

1) Coincidence? Meybe, Meybe not. SADIE LOU WHERE ARE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FOURTEEN POUNDS? Holy cow! My biggest baby was 6lbs 3oz. Tell your wife not to worry. Her doc will have some idea (hopefully) of how big the little one is, and unless he has a huge head, most women can handle a 10 pounder.

Oh hell. Just shut UP.

Little G was nine pounds and eleven ounces. Thankfully, the doctor thought she'd be seven pounds or so, which kinda kept me from freaking out until afterwards.

Two years ago I gave birth to a HEALTHY 11lbs. 2oz. 22in. Baby boy. In my living room in just under 3 hours. My other babies were all around 8 and 9 pounds. I was so proud of myself for doing what no medical professional said could or should be done. God made women for just that task and it is a true blessing to be this woman.

No WAY I'm showing this to my 36-week preggo wifey. Blimey!

My goodness Rachel, you're stronger than most men, but then, you probably already know that. Nice job!

Well, not to be the harbinger of doom over here -- but it's not so much the poundage of the baby but the HEAD CIRCUMFERENCE.

And yes. Generally speaking, babies don't grow out of proportion to mommy's pelvic region. But an experienced OB/GYN will know. It ain't gonna be fun, Mrs. Phin, (they don't call it "labor" for nothin') but there's this wonderful thing called "birth amnesia" that women get -- otherwise there'd only be one child per family!!

You can do it. :)

When Clone was born, he was taken by c-section two weeks early at 10 lbs 6 oz. The doctor had said that if he had gone to term he'd have been over 12 pounds.

I work with a girl that gave birth to a 16 pound 8 oz, 24 inches about 6 years ago. At the time I didn't know anything about baby size and thought it was average. I now understand why all the women in my unit fainted at the news. And yes, it was natural.

Excellent point Margi about head circumference. Both of my children who topped 9lb had massive heads. To quote Mike Myers, "Look'a that heed! It's like sputnik on a toothpick." You gotta look out for the heads.

I saw that story about the 14 pound baby. I do know that some people have larger babies due to undiagnosed and/or untreatment medical conditions, ie: diabetes. Fortunately the gal got a c-section -- I can't even imagne giving birth, moreless a 14 pounder naturally :O
